Substance Use

Support Groups:

The Michigan Opioid Partnership works with Michigan’s hospitals and jails, which are critical intervention points to reach and treat those with opioid use disorder, as an integral part of addressing the state’s opioid crisis. The site provides resources for medical and criminal justice professionals engaged in this work.

NorthCare Network manages specialty mental health & substance abuse services & supports throughout the Upper Peninsula.

GLRC partners with the Youth Mental Health Project to coordinate the Parent Support Network of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for parents who are concerned about their child’s mental health. This is a free, confidential and virtual support group for UP caregivers.

Upper Peninsula Community Mental Health Agencies:

If you are looking for information about men’s mental health, coupled with humor, Man Therapy is a wonderful resource.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has an Alger/Marquette chapter that offers support groups, educational meetings and a Family-To-Family program.  You can learn more about their programs on the NAMI Alger Marquette website.  To learn about what they are doing on a state level, visit NAMI Michigan.

The National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline can now be reached by calling 988.

Dial Help is a 24/7 crisis and outreach center for individuals throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Grief support group for survivors of suicide loss are offered in Ishpeming and in Marquette.

The State of Michigan provides a webpage detailing resources for suicide prevention.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration offers specialized toolkit resources for schools regarding mental health and suicide prevention. The After a Suicide: Toolkit for Schools aims to assists schools in implementing a coordinated response to the suicide death of a student and the Preventing Suicide toolkit, which assists high schools and school districts in designing and implementing strategies to prevent suicide and promote behavioral health.

Visit Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan for information on the Michigan health insurance plan.

The Northern Michigan Regional (NMRE) entity is one of ten Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHPs) in the state of Michigan to manage the behavioral health (mental health, intellectual disability and substance use disorder) services for people enrolled in Medicaid.

The Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health seeks to improve the health and well-being of Upper Peninsula residents and communities by developing collaborative partnerships that improve the access and availability of affordable, quality healthcare services.

The Upper Peninsula Health Plan provides health coverage for individuals enrolled in Medicaid, the Healthy Michigan Plan, MIChild, Children’s Special Health Care Services, MI Health Link, and Medicare Advantage.
