Mental Health & High School Curriculum

Thank you Superior Health Foundation and the Do it for Daniel Foundation for funding the Mental Health & High School Curriculum Training for teachers!

“Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Inc. (GLRC) received a $6,000 grant from the Superior Health Foundation to train ten to twenty teachers from across the Upper Peninsula in the Mental Health & High School (MH & HS) Curriculum.

The 8-hour training and will take place on March 7, 2019 in Marquette, with the hopes that it can be implemented in this school year. An additional $2,000 was received from the Do it for Daniel Foundation so that stipends could be offered to help cover sub-pay and mileage.

The MH & HS curriculum was developed by Dr. Stan Kutcher, Professor of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. Through the curriculum, students will increase their understanding of mental health, mental health issues and mental illnesses. This will help to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues and seeking help. Students will also learn coping strategies and how to encourage others to seek help.”
